TutorTrivia - Successful Interviewing

When unemployment is high and job competition is stiff, it’s not easy to land the job you want. Don’t let it discourage you! Whether you’re unemployed or just want to try a new job, it’s always possible to find new opportunities. Let’s consider some ways to improve your chances.

1.Balance: In a perfect world, your job search can be limited to your favorite companies and positions. However, this is not the case, and you need to be a bit more flexible. Include in your job search companies that aren’t the biggest name brands. Also, try looking outside your usual industry.

2.Research: Once you’ve been offered an interview, do as much research about the company as you can! The more you know about them (BEFORE the interview), the better. This can include everything from mediacoverage to annual reports.

3.Attire: Dress for success! Dressing your best shows the interviewer that you take the job seriously. Even if the company has a more casual dress code, don’t assume it is okay to dress casually to the interview.

4.Know What You Offer: When looking for a job, it’s essential to stay positive and know what you have to offer. Try writing down all your greatestachievements; then, see if you can casually work them into the conversation during the interview.

5.Body Language: The way you sit and the gesturesyou make will tell your interviewer a lot about yourself. Eye contact throughout the interview is important. Also, you must appear as confident as possible.

6.Questions: Try to prepare some thoughtful questions before your interview. If you don’t have any, your interviewer might take it as a lack of interest. Some good questions may include: “What are your expectations for this role?” or “When can I follow up with you?”
